** NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) in Morgan County **

Morgan County is involved and impacted by three separate happenings within NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program). 

1.  FIRM

A 2008 Morgan County agreement with FEMA and the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) to prepare new FIRM (Flood Insurance Rate Mapping)

 

 

 

 

2.  CHAMP

Colorado Hazard Mapping Program (CHAMP) - South Platte River Flood Study

"The resulting products and deliverables are expected to form the basis for a subsequent regulatory update for all streams under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (MAP) Program."

3.  Reauthorization of the NFIP

9.12.2017 With the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) soon due for reauthorization, NACo representatives advocate for making NFIP sustainable and affordable for residents during the Congressional Home Protection Caucus briefingand NACo's Capitol Hill briefing, respectively.

The National Flood Insurance Program was set to expire Sept. 30, 2017, but legislation signed by President Trump Sept. 8 reauthorized the program until Dec. 8, 2017.

The South Platte River Master Plan is a collaboration between Morgan, Washington, Logan and Sedgwick Counties, stakeholder groups along the river, and federal and state agencies funded through a DOLA (Department of Local Affairs) grant.

** MORGAN COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER **

Citizens' Advisory Committee

The Board of County Commissioners convened a Citizens' Advisory Committee to develop a plan for the Morgan County Justice Center.  The capabilities of this building have been exceeded by the agencies who occupy it.

The agencies housed in the current Justice Center are operating at full capacity and have no room to expand although growth within the county and the associated activity of these agencies continues to increase.

Morgan County, CO was formed in 1889 from part of Weld County. The county seat is in Fort Morgan. Morgan County is primarily a rural entity located on the high plains of northeastern Colorado, with Weld and Logan Counties to the north, Washington County to the east, Adams County to the south and Weld County to the west.

Measuring 36 miles long and 36 miles wide, the county encompasses 1,296 square miles. Morgan County is 36th among Colorado counties measured in square-miles, but is abundantly rich agriculturally with many irrigated and dry land farms as well as beef, sheep and dairy ranches.
